Behind the Brand: Azomalli
Meet Azomalli's Founder, Paola Balsa
1. What is the name of your company?
Azomalli
2. What is your title?
Founder / Owner
3. Where is your company located?
Denver, Colorado
4. Whats your current obsession?
Returning Home To Our Bodies by Abigail Rose Clarke, and my very own cacao tea.
5. How did you hear about Naturally Colorado? What made you become a member? Has Naturally Colorado helped you in any way?
I learned about it from Beth Pomerantz, Owner of Fire Fly Handmade, where I participate in different markets.
6. What size is your company?
None, I am a solopreneur. I outsource services, but as of now, no employees.
7. What inspired you to start your company?
Many things; I have a passionate desire to share my heritage and culture in a way that benefits consumers, producers and the earth. Tea is a passion of mine, and representative of culture and tradition; it’s an honor to share my own culture and delicious product in a way that benefits everyone involved. I am motivated by stories of people of all walks of life; by our human nature and by what makes us special and unique. Watch this short video to hear more about the origin of Azomalli.
8. Why did you choose to focus on the natural and organic industry?
I think that we have moved away from natural products in the name of practicality, affecting not just our health, but our way of living. I want to promote and support a more natural and holistic way of living.
9. Can you describe the biggest challenge you faced during the early stages of your company, and how you overcame it?
I am currently relaunching my company that I had to close down due to COVID. The biggest challenge is to manage everything myself, on top of my freelance job as a certified court interpreter and my role as a singer mother. I overcome it every day, just doing what I can, at every single second, and doing it the best way that I can.
10. What keeps you up at night regarding your business?
Being able to reach as many people as I possibly can to be able to promote mindfulness, holistic living, diversity and natural living. Being able to survive and promote a healthy, noble product that is good and that is sustainable and reduces waste; being able to grow as much as I can to subsist and share what I am passionate about.
11. What strategies can you share that have been effective?
12. How important is networking, and what strategies do you use to build and maintain professional relationships?
Very important; it’s at the heart of my mission. I communicate as often as I can, and try to attend many events including markets, networking events and join and support different local groups.
13. What is one piece of advice or knowledge that has changed your life and why?
Do your best at any given second. It’s useless to stress over what you did wrong or over what may happen; the only moment that matters is now, and right now you can do your best and give it your all. No regrets.
