Yet considerations around technical production, regulations, food ethics, and product consumption experience present challenges. Food science helped get us in the mess we are in – how much should we trust the next generation of food technology?
How would an ‘ethical vegan’ respond to lab-grown meat where no animals are harmed? Can lab-grow bacon be certified Kosher?
What about CRISPR gene-editing technology in our food supply? It is not technically transgenic – but is it safe and how should it be regulated and labeled?

Meet the Panelists
Pete Lubar
Pete has over 30 years of experience in commercial enterprises running sales and operations for a variety of private and public companies. As a Co-Founder of MycoTechnology, Pete spent five years as COO running the firm’s operations. He managed key projects including the building of its first production plant and was instrumental in Series A and B fundraising. He has spent the last year in Business Development where he works with Myco’s strategic investors to incorporate Myco’s products into their offerings. He has recently been involved in the launching of a business to consumer e-commerce brand. Pete has a BA from the University of New Mexico and a MBA from Southern Methodist University.
Rich Kelleman
Rich is the Co-Founder and CEO of Bond Pet Foods, a Boulder-based start-up that’s working with biotechnology to make pet food from animal protein like chicken, turkey and beef, without the animal. Before diving into the world of pets and food tech, Rich was a strategic planner at a number of advertising agencies for more than 20 years including CP+B, Upshot, FCB and Fallon, where he lead brand strategy for brands like Burger King, P&G, Kellogg’s, and Coca-Cola. Rich has a B.A. in Marketing from Boston College, with additional study at Stanford University’s Center for Social Innovation.
Amanda Duran
As a Colorado native with agricultural roots, Amanda Duran has been in the food industry for over 17 years. She started her career in the natural beef business working for Harris Ranch and then moved onto Niman Ranch. In 2015 she joined the Seattle Fish (Denver) leadership team due to her interest in getting back into the local community. However; when Beyond Meat was looking to expand their team and needed meat experience, Amanda took the leap to plant based protein.
Caroline Bushnell
Caroline is the Associate Director of Corporate Engagement at The Good Food Institute (GFI), a nonprofit organization accelerating the shift to a sustainable, healthy, and just food system. She advises some of the world’s largest food companies, retailers, and restaurants on business opportunities in the rapidly evolving fields of plant-based and cell-based meat, eggs, and dairy. She also leads GFI’s retail strategy and consults on innovation, marketing, and merchandising best practices for the plant-based foods industry. Before her time with GFI, Caroline served as the Director of Marketing for Celestial Seasonings at The Hain Celestial Group. Caroline has over a decade of experience in CPG brand management, finance, and consulting. She is a graduate of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
