Meet the Panelists
Kate Brown
Kate Brown is founder of Boulder Organic Foods and has been developing the Boulder Organic brand since 2006. Boulder Organic is a national brand of organic fresh soup, distributed through natural, grocery, club and mass retailers. Kate lives in Boulder, CO and enjoys the vibrant community of natural product entrepreneurs there. When she’s not spreading the soup love, she is a champion for Colorado’s community through board service and mentorship.
John Tayer
As President and CEO of the Boulder Chamber, John is honored to lead the organization that serves as Boulder’s unified voice for business interests, advances the community’s economic vitality, and provides valuable business support services. Prior to joining the Boulder Chamber, John was Public Affairs and Communications Director for the pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Roche Colorado Corporation, and Policy Development Director in the Boulder City Manager’s Office. John also spent six years as the Boulder area’s elected representative to the Regional Transportation District. A native of Brookline, Massachusetts, John earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, spent a couple of years working on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, and moved to Boulder 30 years ago to earn a law degree from the University of Colorado. He now resides in South Boulder with his wife, Molly, and enjoys playing in the outdoors, accessing local cultural attractions and generally loves his community.
Clif Harald
Clif Harald is Executive Director of the Boulder Economic Council (BEC), the economic development arm of the Boulder Chamber. Clif is responsible for the BEC’s mission: to sustain Boulder’s economic vitality. He also leads the BEC’s plan of work priorities, including proactive support for existing businesses across Boulder’s key industries and engagement with Boulder’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and its startup businesses. Clif has over 15 years of economic development leadership experience in Boulder County and the metro Denver region, including 8 years managing the BEC. Previously, he held management positions with technology and financial services firms, and founded his own management consulting practice. Clif has a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Washington and an undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado.
Tamar McKee
Tamar McKee is co-Founder and co-CEO of Khala & Company which handcrafts zero waste provisions such as reusable food wraps to help folks go plastic-free from the kitchen to the campsite and all points in between. Originally founded as “Khala Cloths,” Tamar and her husband, Asa, started their award-winning company as a way to help people minimize their plastic footprint on the planet when it came to prepping, wrapping, and storing food. A Boulder native, McKee holds a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of British Columbia where her research on the relationship between humans, animals, and the environment has driven Khala & Company’s commitment to environmental action and community alliances.
