Join us on May 20TH as we kick off the Sustainability Forum with a behind-the-scenes tour of Scraps Mile High, a local leader in building a more circular food system. Scraps is on a mission to keep food waste out of landfills by collecting compostable materials from homes, businesses, and events, then transforming them into nutrient-rich compost that supports local agriculture. What sets Scraps apart is their community-driven approach, making composting accessible, scalable, and deeply connected to the Colorado ecosystem our industry depends on.

This session offers a practical look at one of the most important levers for reducing environmental impact across the value chain. During the tour, we will:

• Dig into Compost Processing 101
• including what qualifies as a feedstock, how Aerated Static Pile systems work, how piles are monitored for temperature and performance, and how state regulations and contamination mitigation shape operations.
• Explore the finished product and its role in rebuilding healthy soils, connecting the dots between waste, climate, and regenerative business practices
• Have meaningful conversation, discuss real-world insights, and connect with peers working to build a more resilient, purpose-driven future.

This site has minimal shade, so we suggest bringing a water bottle, hat, and comfortable shoes you don’t mind walking through dirt in. For directions, Google Maps takes you to the end of the dirt road. Follow the dirt road down until you see a white tent, then pass the white tent toward a white barn home. The office (storage container) / site is right past the barn home.

Please note, the Scraps site is gravel/mulch. The office is an old shipping container so it’s super small. We’ll spend the day outside the whole time.
